Hey all Rivals is going to be launching new message boards soon.
The plan is the Main Board will go live next Wednesday. They are going to let users beat that board up and work any kinks out. This thing has been tested and tested so we will how the final product goes live on Wed.
Once that phase gets through the following Monday the boards are set to switch over.
I have been impressed with them, but I am no tech guy.
These are some features that I remember from doing the testing:
- The boards are written in a code that fit whatever device you are on. So they fit to the screen whether you are on desktop or mobile. You will post the same and have all of the features on mobile as you would desktop.
- There is private conversation.
- There is ignore feature which will work on mobile and desktop.
- You can link a Twitter page and it embeds in the post.
- There is video embed.
- You can cut and paste any photo.
- There is a notification system where you can be notified if someone responds to your post. Or you can be notified if anybody responds to any certain post.
- There will be links at the top of the board of threads you can "watch" and when you go back to the board you will be notified.
- All posts not read will be bold so you know. There will be a way clear the bold posts if you don't want to wade through them all.
- There is no limit how old threads will be. They will be archived forever and accessible.
- Every single reply will have its own link. So if you want to quote someone in a new thread and the reply is halfway down in a long thread you can "perma link" to that exact part.
- You will have your own avatar. Any thread you have commented in, you will see a little double icon with your avatar letting you know you have participated in that thread.
- On the mobile screen you can search and do everything you can on the normal desktop.
- You will be able to scroll over the thread title and see the first paragraph preview to decide if you want to read it.
- You can past a PDF link and it turns it into a scrolling link to read PDFs
- I have been told the new board is written in a new code where adding new features can be done quickly. Been told there are already several more features on tap that will come out in a new version.
- This is just the beginning so wanted to pass along.
