Been thinking about this a lot lately so I'm going to take a stab at where I think our Current Commits will end up being ranked as I don't think a lot of them are properly evaluated.
Taiwan Berryhill
5.6-->5.6
For some reason I feel like Berryhill was a 5.7 at one point. I'm almost certain of it and I think a rating drop to 5.6 is accurate. If he ends up at KU, I do think he's going to be a major impact player for KU down the road but his frame needs some work before his game will translate over properly.
Juan Jarrett
5.4-->5.5
Honestly I don't know why he was rated as a 5.4.. the dude actually looks amazing on film and his size in pictures is that of what you saw from the kids at the 5* challenge this past weekend. A bump up is definitely in the future for him.
Malik Johnson
5.6-->5.7
I'm pretty sure Malik was actually 5.5 at one point and I think he is due for a jump up after what I would expect to be a prolific senior season. He's got some pretty decent size for that agility and shiftiness he brings to the table and I'm pretty excited about what is in store for him. I'm not the best at relating HS stats to how prevalent they are at this level but I presume his statline last year has hurt his ranking a little bit.
Tommy Brandt
5.4-->5.4
This is a decision I struggled to make. I think Tommy will not raise for two reasons, his size isn't amazing by any means and I don't think he will continue to grind for offers. He's the type of kid I think that would blow up if he made it through the early signing period unsigned but I don't foresee that happening on Miles' watch.
Nicholas Martinez
5.4-->5.5
He's one I think will make a jump just based off where he is playing and his size in general. I do think he has some things to work on and it's been interesting to see someone who reports on recruiting in that area say they could see him playing guard at this level. He's one I think will add a few more offers to the sheet before it's all said and done.
Caleb Taylor
5.5-->5.5
This is one that I think would have gone to 5.6 if he stayed in STL and didn't commit to KU but given that he is committed AND moving to KC. I think that will draw back his offers moving forward and I truly believe analysts put weight into offers. Good get by Miles & co regardless.
Kenean Caldwell
5.5-->5.8
As I'm typing this, I'm thinking this may be my biggest jump but more than likely will be tied for my biggest jump. This kid has no business being rated a 5.5. He's the size of a mountain and moves damn well. I think he's going to have a huge senior season and holding onto him may prove to be the hardest.
Garrett Jones
5.5-->5.5
I don't foresee any changes in his recruiting ranking. I think his film looks exactly like those around his ranking and I think with his size, I don't think he has much room to move up without just an insane senior season.
JaCobee Bryant
5.7-->5.8
I think JaCobee gets his fourth star here soon. The kid is very talented and his frame is quite frankly just perfect for what we need him to do at KU. He's obviously going to be up there for one of the hardest kids to hold onto in this class but sounds like he is pretty sold on KU.
Luke Grimm
5.4-->5.5/5.6
I say this with a slash because I think he will get a bump up regardless based on what we've seen him do over the summer in the camp circuit. He's impressed everywhere he has visited/camped at and I expect that to carry into the season. I don't think his size and speed is "standout" level so he's not going to get any hype from that but I do think DB is his future and I think if he gets some PT on that side of the ball in the fall, he could put something impressive together there and earn a higher ranking.
Khari Coleman
5.7-->5.7
Khari's ranking is perfect in my opinion. Talent level is that of someone that can come in and contribute right away but in a perfect world will be given 3 years to put together very solid performances on the field for us.
Krishawn Brown
5.6-->5.6
This is one I think I'll actually get wrong. I think 5.6 is a little bit of a reach for him right now but think he has impressed in front of the guys doing the analysis so it has got him this rating. I think an impressive senior season will actually get him to a 5.7 ranking but I think right now he's like a 5.55 in my eyes.
Jaylin Richardson
5.5-->5.5
Only reason Jaylin will stay at 5.5 is because I don't think enough defensive film will get out there. He's at least a 5.6 on that side of the ball as a linebacker. Very ferocious mentality on defense and I think could become the next Mike Lee for this team. (hopefully he wraps up better).
Kyler Pearson
5.3-->5.4
I'm just being optimistic here to be honest.. I think Pearson has really good hands but his size is never going to get him high up the rankings. Who knows if we finalize with Pearson or if he ever sees the field for us but he's someone I think will find a spot on this roster somehow and someway.
Kershawn Fisher
5.5-->5.5
It's crazy to me that his commitment was 3 weeks ago, feels like a lifetime. Kershawn is very talented but his frame and skill is going to need development. I think he will make an impact for 2-3 solid years at KU but 5.5 seems like a good spot for someone w/ his talent level.
Duece Mayberry
5.6-->5.7
This might be a slightly optimistic take here but I think Duece is in for a big jump. I've seen quite a few clips of him working out and practicing lately and he seems pretty dedicated to getting ready for the next level.. I think he has a perfect frame and is going to be playing at a high level in OK this year that should grab some attention.. If i remember correctly, grades may be something that has steered some programs away.
Jackson Stoefen
5.5-->5.5
Our cornfed Iowan is not going to get a jump in his ratings in my opinion. I think Stoefen is an important part of this class but nothing in his film jumps out screams "I need a jump" and I think that's perfectly okay. When it comes to OL, I always find three different categories. "Project", "needs proper development" & monster and I think Stoefen is in needs proper development so I don't foresee anything changing from HS football.
Davonshai Harden Jr.
5.4-->5.5
There's no way Davonshai doesn't get this jump this year. He's been grinding to get better at QB as that really is the spot he wants to play and where the staff sees him having an impact. especially rated as an ATH, there's got to be a jump in his future.. You'd think maybe too if he can get Ky Thomas to flip, he may get a courtesy jump there.
Will Huggins
5.5-->5.8
So this is a jump I'm pretty confident in, It may fall short to 5.7 but quite frankly there is no way he doesn't end up a high 3*. I'm kind of keen to the reason why he doesn't have a ton of offers at this point and if he doesn't jump it's because he isn't open to more (back to the point that rivals cares about offers). But this kid is very fkin talented and arguably one of the best in this class. (he's 6/7 240 and can move and catch).
Trevor Kardell
5.5-->5.5
I don't think Trevor gets a rating boost but he deserves one. Another talented kid that I don't think is open to many more offers and definitely not putting himself out there for them. I'd be very surprised to get a jump here but I'm excited to see how he does in the fall.
Keenan Hambrick
5.5-->5.5
I'm mostly interested to see if he sticks. I think Hambrick is very high on KU but there has to be a point where you see 7 pass catchers, most rated above you in your class and the continuity for WR recruits in the 21 class and you start asking about your chances for PT. nonetheless I think 5.5 is a good spot for this kid who will have some room to grow in weight room but shows some good promise.
