As fall camp is drawing near. Having been around the team all spring and during summer camps I get the feel nobody has an edge. It doesn't matter what they did last year it is a new start. They are going to be judged head to head and through scrimmages through fall camp.
If I had to make a guess based off last year I would give Willis the slight edge going into camp. That's play I saw on the field. I know Beaty will wipe the slate clean.
However, there is something I think will play into factor although it won't be mentioned....and that's the fact Cozart got 15 practices with Beaty last spring learning what he wants. I don't think that gives Cozart an edge in Beaty's mind but it might help early on. Last spring Beaty was very, very complimentary of what Cozart did in the spring. Now Willis was still there and got to see what Beaty wants but he didn't get to physically perform the reps.
Cozart had a rough spring game but Beaty seemed encouraged even after the game from he saw in the other practices.
"Honestly, that was not what we've seen from him throughout spring," Beaty said after the game. "He's actually been very, very good with the ball. He's taken great care of it. He's made good decisions, and he's played really well. He's really been impressive throughout the spring."
I believe Stanley will have to catch up and just little things I hear Starks will need to learn fast to get up with the other this fast. The guy not to sleep on is Haehn I just don't know where s health-wise. He has some tools and ability based on film.
For me the biggest factor is what does Beaty want to do? Does he feel the o-line still needs to progress and will he want to mix in things like option, QB run game, jet sweeps, etc that keeps defenses honest? There was very little of that last year.I know Beaty is going to put some of his stamps on the offense. I just don't know exactly what they are going to be. That could also play into factor in deciding the QB.
My guess at some point Beaty will have narrow the field to two so those players can get the most reps in fall camp so he can make a decision.
