1st- I think we miss Danny some. The guy is arguably the best in the business when it comes to developing posts.
2nd- Our recruiting strategy has changed a little, especailly with regards to posts. It seems like we are going EXCLUSIVELY after 5 star dudes right now. That's all good and well if you can get a few of them to commit and then stay. That's not what has happened though. Instead, we have signed two, and gotten less than 2 full seasons combined out of them. Remember when we used to recruit a stable of guys in the 30-70 range at post. Good athletes, big, strong, stayed for 3-4. Now we don't even have anything that resembles that.
I feel like our guard recruiting has been good. Selden, Svi, Mason, Graham, Brannen are guys that can stick around and gain discipline each year. I know Selden was disappointing, but take out the 2nd half yesterday and Mason has been terrific this year. He panicked and lost control last night. He will learn.
I think we need to be looking to get a better stable of posts in. I like Lucas, and Hunter, but ultimately I think we need a better class of athlete with a better motor than those guys can bring. I think if we just made it a priority to sign 2-3 guys between 30-70 and didn't worry about 1 and done types, that we could easily get a STUD lineup of posts in. We need to stop being Calipari. We won't beat him at that game. Ever. But we can do things the "Kansas way". Discpline built over years in the program, always strong leadership from upperclassmen. That used to be a Self's MO. Now we have no discipline, and our defense and offensive effeciency suffer because of it. If a we can get a 5 star stud once in a while great. If not, I would prefer to see us get a team of 3-4 year guys that can handle the pressure of games like last night.
