Not that what I think matters, but I’ve spent the past week into today researching Leipold and watching a lot of his post game press conferences, interviews, coaching seminars, etc. College Gameday even did a cool piece on him when he was at UW-Whitewater.

Make no mistake, this guy is all football, nothing else. He doesn’t do social media, he doesn’t have the behind the scenes TV show, he doesn’t have the household name. I get the feeling that all he is interested in is coaching football, and I can’t say that about our past 4 hires.

He has an interesting demeanor. He’s straight to the point, doesn’t show too much emotion, and knows what he wants to say and how he goes about saying it. I’m curious to see what type of recruits he pulls. He doesn’t have that high energy, big personality. He comes off very low key. I’m not sure we can expect the recruiting classes like this years in the future, but I think his words will strike a chord with local recruits, and his philosophy with players will be mostly about earning your way and developing, rather than shooting for the stars and moon by going after big name 4 stars. And I’m curious to see if he will be able to recruit the majority of our current roster to stay. He’s as sincere as it gets, and I hope he gets them to buy in.

But there is something about this guy that’s got me so excited. Maybe it’s the break from the nonstop circus hires we have made since 2010. But the thing I’m going to look for from go: very VERY small amount of penalties, and an end to boneheaded drive ending or opposing team drive extending mistakes. It seemingly has been a never ending spiral for KU, every game we are in we bail out the opponent with a very ill timed penalty or turnover. I don’t care about scoring a lot yet, or being defensively stout either just yet. If we can be sound on what we can control, I’ll feel very confident going forward with this team and Leipold.

Long post, sorry. New here and finally found a place to talk about my love for all things KU football and basketball. Have a great start to the week folks! RCJH!
