I was wondering if anyone was following this story and what their thoughts are on the whole thing.
To summarize, the Head of Spain's Football Association (soccer), Luis Rubiales, has been under some real heat. The Spanish Women's National Team won the Women's World Cup in Australia/New Zealand recently. In the celebrations, Rubiales and one of Spain's best players, Jenni Hermoso, congratulated each other as is typical in trophy wins. Suddenly, Rubiales grabbed Hermoso's checks and went in and gave her peck on the lips.
Since then, people have been calling for his resignation. He claims that they were discussing the match and then he said "a peck?" and she said "ok" so he kissed her and that it was consensual. He claims it was a kiss like he would kiss his daughter. She claims that that is completely false and she felt like she was the victim of his aggression and is calling for his dismissal.
Many National Team players stated they would refuse a call up while he is still in power. All of the assistant coaches and doctors for the National Team resigned. Word came out Thursday that he planned to resign. However, on Friday, he basically said "**** naw! I will not resign, I didn't do sh*t, this is character assassination (I made it a little more dramatic than what he actually said)." FIFA has suspended him now.
From my perspective, it looked pretty innocuous. Like someone overcome with happiness and emotion just kissing someone out of elation. It didn't look sexual or anything like that to me. However, it's become a Me Too type moment in Spain. I was wondering what everyone else thought if anyone is following the situation.
