This is not a personal attack on a player rather the way he plays the game. He seems like a great kid and has some very desirable traits that can help KU win, not the least of which is seemingly some leadership qualities. While it would be great if he read this, got pissed and actually tried to change his game for improvement to shut up his critics, this is really just me wanting to vent more about perhaps the most frustrating performance from a KU player that I can remember. How can a guy look as strong as him and play so damn soft? The whole taking off for the rim 1 to 2 strides too early to the basket is always known as a "soft" move by guys who try to avoid contact rather than powering up for a strong strong dunk or drawing a foul. He is always taking off too early, leaving him powerless and descending at the rim. How many damn dunks did he miss? Not to mention how many soft finger roll farm shots or just losing it on the way up because he was flying in out of control trying to get a shot up before someone fouled him. When you are as strong as he is (or at least looks), wouldn't you use that to your advantage? Look, I hated Marcus Smart more than anyone, but that dude knew his biggest asset was his strength, so he used it to get to the paint and score - nice and controlled, not 100 mph trying to AVOID contact. He is the basketball equivalent of the football player who "looks like Tarzan and plays like Jane". I certainly hope this is high on Self's radar for the biggest single need for any player on the team to improve. His 3 and mid range jumper improved, his total inability to score at the rack is his glaring weakness on the offensive end - for god's sake, do something about it. If I am totally wrong here than nobody will know who I am referring to.
