While we are not even close to the 2016 class being signed, I can't help but look forward to the 2017 class. I have been pin-pointing this class the day Beaty took over. I think this will be the class that makes or breaks Beaty potentially. Do you have any early thoughts on this class, who you hope they land, and what you hope they land?
In general, I am hoping we land this many prospects at each spot:
QB: 1 - 2
RB: 2 (one JUCO possibly)
WR/TE: 4 - 5
OL: 5 (one JUCO possibly)
DE: 3 (one JUCO possibly)
DT: 2 - 3 (one JUCO possibly)
LB: 2 (one JUCO possibly)
DB: 5 (one JUCO possibly)
ATH: 0 - 1
At QB, I go back and forth between one or two. When you look at this class, Millweard and Cozart will be moving on and you will just be left with Stanley and Willis. There is a part of me that hopes we can get a really good walk on QB prospect in the 2016 class to help with this, but we are going to need some bodies here.
We need to make sure Joey McGuire is still our best friend when this class roles around - six guys ranked 5.6 *** or higher with three of them being 4 stars. I would offer all of them right now (we have offers out to most of them) and try to get them all as a package deal - some real difference makers in that group.
It's really hard to judge the film of 2017 guys right now, A lot of guys I watched their sophomore stuff and thought they had a chance, but didn't progress. That being said, there are some guys that we have offered early on that I really hope we land. Trestan Ebner is one (his clips) - this guy is just a royal pain in the ass to defend, he doesn't give up on any play and fights for every ball at receiver. I also like Kenneth Murray (his clips) - he may end up growing into a LB, but physically is already very impressive
