With the Chancellor search ongoing, how we handle the next few years is critical. What are we looking for in a Chancellor? Do we try to hire one with Big 10 ties? Do we try to hire the best power broker? Do we get a more academic type?
What politicians get re-elected and how favorable are they to KU? I had forgotten until listening to a podcast last night that even though WV was plenty qualified, the tiebreaker that got them in over Louisville was Boren's relationship with WV's Senator was much stronger than his was with McConnell of Kentucky.
I do think BGL has accomplished a lot on her watch with the Cancer Center, central campus, elevated admission standards, Far Above Capital Campaign, etc. Things should be setup pretty well for the next Chancellor assuming we make a good hire. Because whether or not you think the Big 12 survives or not, as we get close to the end of the GOR, no doubt UT and OU will explore their options. They might decide the Big 12 is best for them, but if not, we need to make sure we're prepared.
The other thing I would do is give Self another raise and extension to make sure he's covered through 2025. Because at this point, basketball will have to be our saving grace if we need to get in another conference.
