KU freshman class is bigger and overall enrollment is up again (barely). KSU and WSU both dropped.

The University of Kansas freshman class has grown for the fourth straight year, according to enrollment numbers released today.
KU has 4,187 new freshmen on campus this fall, an increase of 2.5 percent from last year’s total of 4,084. The freshman class has the highest average high school GPA and second-highest average ACT score (25.2) in KU history, as well as the second-highest percentage of minority students (22.3 percent) on record.
“Trends for the past four years demonstrate that more and more students want to be part of a major public research university with highly ranked academic programs and unique opportunities,” said Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little. “We are pleased to have increased again the size of our freshman class and to have done so with such academically talented and diverse students.”
This year’s freshmen also set KU records for percentage of students with an ACT/Converted SAT score of 30 or higher (16.9 percent) and an ACT score of 27 or higher (38 percent).

Across the six state universities, there was an increase in enrollment at Fort Hays State University (385 students; 2.78%) and the University of Kansas (108 students; 0.39%), but overall there was a decrease of 890 students (-0.94%) compared to the preliminary census day count in 2014. Kansas State University realized a decrease in the number of enrollments (620 students; -2.5%), as did Wichita State University (508 students; -3.39%), and Pittsburg State University (235 students; -3.14%). There was nearly flat enrollment at both Emporia State University (decreasing by 20 students; -0.33%) and Washburn University, the state’s municipal university (increasing by 6 students; 0.08%).
