This board has posters from a variety of generations. This had let me to the overused term GOAT. I look at changes such as the widening of the lane, replays, 3 point shot, palming or overall dribbling, shot clock. What would today's players be like under the old rules? What would big Clyde, Bridges, and others do under today's rules? The same goes for football. There has to be GOAT's the games generations and these generations have to be indigenous to the sport. Growing up I lived in the center of great basketball-Ames Iowa. ISC the Big 6 and then 7, Drake in the Valley and Iowa in the Big 10. I saw all the "early" greats play. In the early days pro all stars toured with college all stars. I went to there games each year in Des Moines. I have seen 3-4 generations of GOAT's. To me as more of purist of the sport, I look at the NBA today as merely exhibitions.

All of the above applies to Football. Otto Graham and his peers played on shitty fields, with balls that were wet, larger, without face masks etc.Graham ran put of bounds, hit the bench with his face, stitched it up, and continued the game. In truth the pros today are pussues when compared to to old time all stars. But the game at talent is a lot better. Top athletes today are greater in numbers and for many reasons. However, I will always laugh at the term GOAT.
