This past weekend I had a conversation with a family member who is an ass't AD at a Big 10 school. (He is a KU grad.) He is obviously well connected. I asked him if he had heard any talk about KU perhaps being somehow considered for membership. He said no, he had heard absolutley nothing and I think he felt that such a move was very unlikely. I am sorry, but I agree. I have no inside info besides that but for all of you that keep saying you hope the Big 12 blows up so we can go somewhere else, preferably the Big 10, be careful what you wish for. If the conference dissolves, we might find a good landing place, but we might not.
I feel the conference should expand to twelve and pause before taking two more. There are many possible candidates and we have talked the possibilities to death on this site. I think I would prefer CSU and an eastern school to partner with WSU--UCONN or Cincy. I do not want Houston. They would give UT more clout and votes and make our Texas recruiting more difficult.
The nation needs a midwest oriented conference. Conference members need to tame UT. Their arrogance drove MU, A&M, and NU away. The old Big 8 members and WVU need to vote in a block to bring UT in line. I can't imagine UT going to another conference. The SEC? Not a chance in my opinion. Their football has had a hard enough time competing now. They would be just another team in that conference. The Pac 12? I don't think they'd want the travel. Not the Big 10 unless they do away with the contiguous state rule. UT might bluff about leaving, but they won't find a better deal than they have right now. The other schools in the conference need to push back against UT and call their bluff.
As far as KU and the Big 10 is concerned, I think it is a pipe dream right now. Better hope the Big 12 survives and thrives. It is where we belong.
