What are people's thoughts about the results of the Kim/Trump summit? Particularly those that are generally supportive of Trump (e.g. BJ, 2001, etc.)?
The basic outcomes:
1. An agreement saying they will pursue further talks, but nothing specific or set
2. Trump appears to have unilaterally agreed to stop "war games", which was interpreted as military exercises, though his lack of clarity is causing confusion. He even echoed North Korea's terms for the exercises, validating in name their claims
3. Trump invited Kim to DC, which he appears to have accepted
4. Trump said he would draw down US troops stationed in SK
Thoughts?
Personally, I think it's clear Trump is using this as a headline grabber and I'm concerned that he has conceded a ton and got nothing in return. Just meeting with Kim was considered a huge concession, now we're potentially stopping military exercises in the region and withdrawing troops? What have we gotten in return? China has to be dancing they are so excited - reports have it they learned of the change in military exercises before the US military did. W.T.F.
One article I read argued - persuasively in my opinion - that this entire gambit was just a way for Trump to look Presidential and do something historic that he can tout to US voters. That his interest in getting a good deal for the US is less a priority than making headlines. But that's a jaded view and I hope it's wrong.
