There seems to be quite a bit of whining with regard to place kicking and Allen being named the starter.

We complained about accuracy in the past and they went and got a transfer that didn't have much of a leg, but was pretty accurate. We ended up in some situations last year where we needed longer field goals. It appeared he lowered his trajectory a bit for more distance which increased the chances of kicks getting blocked. It seemed like the same people that whined previously we just need a guy that can consistently hit a 30 yard field goal whined just as much when we had a guy that could hit a 30-35 yard field but lacked the leg for longer kicks.

Allen has been the kick off specialist because he has a cannon for a leg, great distance. If, and this is a pretty big if, but if Allen has improved accuracy by working his craft in the off season, and he maintains his power, it is not incomprehensible that we could have a decent situation with FG kicking this year.

I realize we do not have a proven, returning starter, Groza finalist on the roster. However, we have three kickers that appear to have some talent. Allen has the leg, and it is possible the light has come on, he has improved his technique, and we will see a good number of FGs going through the uprights. If he can't find the target, at least we have a couple of guys behind him that were in a close race and could be serviceable.

It sounds like Allen has been consistently hitting FGs in practice. Time will tell if that carries over to games.

Sure, I am a bit of a sunshine pumper at times, but damn some of you simply are not happy unless you are unhappy. I am no spring chicken and I do not remember a better time to be a KU football fan than right now.
