Elijah McClain. 23-year old black man was walking home when someone called the police saying he looked 'suspicious' but that he didn't likely pose a threat. Police showed up, put him on the ground, put him in a chokehold, hand-cuffed him, then paramedics injected him with ketamine despite him laying on the ground unmoving for 'about a minute'. He later died of a heart attack. Coincidentally (/s) every one of the police officers' body cams were supposedly knocked off so there is no video evidence.
A recent report finds the officers were in the wrong and didn't have justification for stopping him, but the cops involved are still on the force and have not been punished. A few cops were fired...because much later video came out of some cops joking around and reenacting the killing of McClain.
But don't you worry, fair slant poster, because charges have been filed...against protestors who held peaceful protests calling for the cops to be punished. One night time vigil with individuals playing violin was broken up with tear gas and riot gear. The cops then arrested six of the protest organizers - some of the arrests involved riot gear - for organizing the peaceful protests. They are charged with kidnapping and 'inciting a riot' and face almost 50 years in prison.
If you really think this doesn't demonstrate a completely ****ed system that needs to be completely upended, I don't know what more you need to know.
