Time is not on our side. Time is not on Beaty's side. Time is not on Zenger's side. And, time is not on KU Football's side. When you start a rebuild from as far behind the pack as we did, time is of the essence even if smart people agree it will take four to five years. Even if it takes that long there had better be demonstrable progress along the way or years four and five never come, that's just the way it works. Which means relative to our opponents we have much less, in fact absolutely zero, time to waste. The optimist will see some modest incremental improvement in certain areas of our team, mostly associated with S and C, defense, and special teams. However, I think most would agree that our current strategy on offense is not only ineffective, but a complete waste of time, because it is not building towards something.
Yes, we need a rich infusion of talent and development, particularly at QB and OL. Yet, the issues go deeper. The coaching decisions made in the Spring proved more harmful than many of us even predicted. We either do not have, or are not developing under game conditions a quarterback who has a chance at success in the future. The OL, even despite their youth, are the worst I have seen, and one has to wonder if the tandem of Likens/Yenser wasn't happy to leave Cal for a reason. In short, it appears that we are on the verge of wasting an entire year on the offensive side of the ball hoping that the ineptitude we have seen the last two games is just magically going to get better.
We simply do not have that kind of time to waste. If Thursday is no better than the past two games, some decisions need to be made prior to the end of the year. Those decisions may include a dismissal, a couple of internal promotions, and burning a red shirt, among others. It is simply a matter of time, time in very short supply, and time we simply cannot afford to waste going nowhere on the offensive side of the ball. Because quickly at a place like KU the time runs out.
