I was looking at a little bit of a dated Jayhawks in the NFL link from the LJW and noticed we have a couple of streaks going. I am not sure what the specific criteria is here, but I think for a guy to count as being in the NFL it means at minimum they made an NFL team's practice squad.
So with that in mind, and please correct me if I am wrong, it has been since 2000 that KU hasn't had a LB on the team that didn't end up in the NFL with Greg Cole joining in 2001. It has been since 2002 that KU hasn't had a DB on the team that didn't end up in the NFL with Charles Gordon joining in 2003 (if there was a DB on the team in 2002 that ended up in the NFL, I believe this streak actually goes back to 1988 with Doug Terry joining KU in 1989). Now some of these guys didn't play much in the NFL and they may not have been big contributors for a specific year at KU, but there has been at least one on the team since those time periods at these positions.
It's not incredibly crazy to think that this is true given the number of spots on the roster for each position and that some of these guys were here 4 to 5 years. I am also sure there are some much more impressive streaks at other schools.
But I brought this up for one reason. When you read this, what does that make you think for the upcoming season? There are essentially two ways to think about it. One thought is that our roster is crap right now. The other thought is that somewhere on this roster is an NFL LB or NFL DB since it is common for there to be one on the team at all times (as of recent history) and we just don't know it yet...
