I can't explain it but it seems like KC and to a lesser extent, Kansas, don't produce very much football or basektball talent. Looking at some comparable cities like Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Charlotte, Nashville, Memphis, etc. they all produce more to way way more football and bball talent. KC seems to produce closer to Tulsa or OKC (maybe less?).

The worst under-performers in Kansas are KCK and Topeka. Both are about 150k and produce next to nothing in terms of D1 prospects for football or basketball. It seems like you see cities about that size in other states, particularly in the South, that produce a couple D-1 guys every year. Wichita and JoCo seem like solid talent producing areas but nothing spectacular. SW KS (Dodge, Garden, Liberal) used to produce D-1 guys but don't seem to much anymore. Salina has had some D-1 guys but again nothing spectacular from a talent producing standpoint.

Am I way off on this? I think saw a per capita D-1 football where recruits come from breakdown a while back and KS was about in the middle. Maybe I'm off on this but it seems like KS and KC should be producing more D-1 guys.
