There will definitely be a discussion on a fix for social security in the near future. There a actually two funds. Social security will last as it is until 2033-meaning at that point there will not be enough money to make full payments. The other fund is the disability fund and that hits the brick wall in 2014, meaning they will no longer be able to make full payments. This should drive talks. There were also several comments made regarding what some of us may think are easy fixes. For example, raising the dollar amount taxable would have a hard impact in that that would mean employers would then have to pay more. The idea of the wealthy (like Buffet) not getting it is a bad idea in that he paid in and we shouldn't crack the sanctity of the agreement. That leaves age adjustments which would further penalize those in physically hard jobs. However, the one thing that is necessary IMO is that SS is an issue that has no business being a political issue and tied to any other budget issues.
Another point made is that illegal immigrants are not getting SS benefits unless they have a valid SS account and 40 quarters of participation.
