This is going to come down to development and coaching players up. There have been other coaches/staffs who have been in this same situation.
Those guys built players into good teams from the ground up. It started with developing a toughness. It started by showing what physical football is. It happened during the summer time.
We can only listen to what we are told. We were given numbers and direct facts that S&C was improved. I don't think that is a lie.
This is going to come down to continuing to improve strength. Coaches devising schemes that best fit their players. And players executing what they are given.
You go back in time to look at how things changed for proof. One staple Mason and Mangino teams had is they seemed to get a little tougher and better every year. Then they believed they could start winning. That's the only real proof I have of seeing how things turned.
Coaches were tough on those players. Trust me I have talked to hundreds of players who played for both coaches. The young OL are going to have to develop an edge. The young DL are going to have to do the same. Guys like Mayberry and Lee who played a lot are going to have to grow up and develop over the next two years.
Those type of things can be developed. They can be coached. They can be forced upon players. Some of it will come with age. There are games KU will be out-mannned but coaching and toughness can counter some of that. I know people are going to roll their eyes but just look 90 miles to the west. That is proof.
