in the last 30 days and a lot of other people too.
I have certainly been outspoken about KU enhancing the game day experience and providing additional amenities. I believe a lot of these can actually have a positive effect on the bottom line and my experience as part of the Frog Club the last thirty days had the wheels turning in my head.
This isn't meant to be a post where KU is trashed, rather ideas we can utilize what we currently have and make some money for the University.
Anyway, a few weeks ago I got bombarded with emails offering TD club access. This is basically a big room in new hoops arena with a patio overlooking (bad view) Amon Carter that they open 2 hours prior to game and keep open throughout game. Cash bar and food catered in by Reata (somewhat high end local southwestern restaurant). Could it be possible to set up some larger temporary structures in our south end zone and market that heavily with cash bar and catered food? Is there space in Anderson that can be used where folks can come and go? Something where fans can go to get out of the elements of need be as well.
A week later I am receiving more emails to upgrade parking. Able to get a lot adjacent to stadium by simply giving more $$ to TCU. I am wondering how much more could be raised by tiering the price of our parking lots like other universities do. Therefore we have the ability to bring more hardcore tailgaters into the lots right next to the stadium instead of so many guys paying 300 or whatever it is and not using their tailgate spot. Not only that, again we are making more money for the school. I hate walking up and seeing so many empty spots in lots better than ours.
Another thought, instead of charging 1k for the space make it be a 1k scholarship donation that doesn't count toward WEF pts. Allows folks to tax deduct and as a result gets more $ for KU. A lot of other schools do this.
I will admit that there were some modest improvements in WEF a few years ago but I get bombarded with opportunities from TCU for some extra $ and they usually end up finding something that interests me each year. It seems like there is a bunch of potential we could tap into and make Memorial a better venue despite the W-L record.
