socialism: a political theory of state ownership of industry. An economic system based on the state ownership of capital.
captialism: an economic system based on the private wonership of capital.

So how far are we away from being a socialist form of capital and/or industry? Does medicare and social security mean citizens lose control of their capital? Are federal programs such as farm aid, bailouts, pork projects for states, welfare, the IRS, etc mean the fed controls all capital and some of the industries? What about banking regulations, EPA, and education mandates? In a truly capitalistic society does government have a role in prtecting a persons assests? I really want to know some of your views. IMO we have some good and bad of each philosophy/system. IMO this is exactly what leads to so much politcal fighting in congress and it is also what has led to such a powerful and sometimes oppressive fed. Whichever way we are headed our system (whatever you want to call it) will remain broken as long as so many voters remain ignorant of issues outside of their own selfish priority and elections are decided by dollars and popularity coupled with limited mandatory qualifications.

Actually I'm trying to get some discussions going and a board that has slowed down a little.
