Discussing pay bumps after coming off a 0 win season seems a little crazy, but I think there are a couple of things to consider here. This will be the last year KU is paying Weis from his guaranteed 5 year contract. Then consider how much Beaty makes compared to other power 5 conference coaches...
I couldn't find info for a couple of schools, but Beaty is easily the lowest paid P5 coach making around 800K per year. The next closest I could find was Matt Campbell (and some others) at ISU making 2 million per year. Then throw in SMU pays their HC that much, the Navy HC makes over twice as much as Beaty, and a double digit number of other non-P5 schools pay their HC more.
Hell - Texas's new OC who has never called a play before makes more than Beaty
Now on the flip side, it would seem a little strange to give him a pay bump if we have another 0 win season. Even if he has a really bad season this upcoming season, does Beaty deserve a pay bump just to make it look like KU is trying to keep up with the rest, or does Beaty need a certain number of wins to get that pay raise?
