Maybe I'm a shitty fan, but I'm just looking forward to a time that we win a bunch of games. The question is: can we be good next year? I'm not at all a rah rah Beaty guy. But I'm also not anti-Beaty. I think with certain moves, we could be good next year.
1. Dom has to show up to Lawrence. He has shown no signs of wavering but he is probably the biggest freshman difference maker I can remember recruiting.
2. We have to get a QB coach and OC. I never believed Beaty could do it. I was always opposed to it. And I think this belief has been proven this year. Beaty can be a great CEO (maybe) but I don't think he's a good COO or middle manager. We are in a weird position because we can't open up the Brinx truck to hire one because he can't make more than Beaty. We'd have to simultaneously raise Beaty (which is be ok with).
3. We need a new QB. Juco options at this point probably suck. Need a surprise grad transfer. We've all kind of pinned our hopes on Starks. I'm worried his development has been minimal this year. I have no evidence to back this up aside from my belief that we don't have a QB coach on the roster right now and that Force said he is more than a year away.
4. This are clearly the big 3 in my mind. Other things include continued OL development (I believe they will be above average next year). Development of the good young talent. Getting Long back on track and playing a meaningful role. That dude is gonna be a hoss for someone before he graduates. But he needs to learn the game of football and they need to quit docking with him and keep a position and teach him. Mayberry turning into a stud. Lee learning his position. The youth look like players. And that's my biggest approval point on Beaty. We just need a coach to develop them and game plan.
I think we could be a 5-7 win team next year if we push the right buttons. I think we win 1 game next year if we push the wrong buttons. And if Beaty wins two games total in three seasons, he won't be here for a fourth.
