How Charlie Weis left Kansas football in ruins
Before I say anything, I'm happy and proud to have Beaty as head coach. Who knows, maybe this whole craziness will have gotten us a staff in place that does great things. That said...
Man, if we really had a shot with Malzahn and we went with Weis that sure doesn't look good for Zenger. I supported Chuck as much as anyone simply because once you hire a coach you know they're here for a few years so you either support the team or not. I'll always choose to support KU Football. But, holy crap, why on Earth would anyone think Weis is better than Malzahn? Not that Malzahn is a football coaching God, but it is hard to think anyone would be worse than Weis. Malzahn was labeled one of the best recruiters in the SEC, he took Auburn to the NC his first year, and called an undefeated offense for LSU. I had been under the impression there was no other interested alternative worth looking at.
I hope this is just another example of ESPN being out of touch with our program.
Edited to add emphasis.

For Kansas, the Malzahn match only made too much sense. But in a defining decision, the Jayhawks changed course in the final moments and opted to go with the biggest name they could get.
That happened to be Charlie Weis.
