Trying to think out of the box. How about an extended Big 12 schedule.
1. Divide 10 teams into two divisions.
2. First play 2 games out of division, one home and one away. Then have bye week
3. Play the 4 teams in your division home and away so 8 games.
4. Everyone has played 10 games.
5. Play a semi final round with four teams.
6. Play a Big 12 championship.
So 12 games for the top 2 teams.
Conference controls entire schedule and protocol. Lots of money!
