Yes we lost, and yes there is a lot of stuff to work on. Some of the play calling seemed questionable at best, and overall too many mistakes were made. But here is the thing... I didn't come away from that game thinking that Ohio was that much better than we were. So in the grand scheme of things, that takes us from one of the worst teams in all of D1 last season, to an upper/middle level MAC team this season. Seems like an improvement to me.
We got our asses kicked in the trenches, but we all know those spots take time to develop unless you get really lucky with recruiting. Especially when you want to develop them from the high school ranks, which is what we all wanted Beaty to do.
I also never got the feeling that they quit or gave up, and they even got back momentum later in the game.
There was a reason Vegas set the over/under to 1.5. We knew going in to the year nothing was going to be easy, but I fully expect us to give Memphis a game this weekend and to surprise a team or two in conference play. As frustrating as Saturday was there is a still a lot of football to be played, and I'm still excited to watch it.
