I have been reading up on HB 2453 which passed the House of Representatives in Kansas. HB2453 basically supports any business or individual to refuse service to or refuse to even interact with anyone associated with a same-sex marriage, civil union, or 'cohabitation'.
I couldn't be more against this legislation and Lord knows I'm not a lawyer...but how is this legislation anything new? Last time I looked, sexual orientation is not a protected class under any federal laws that I'm aware of. So, all individuals and businesses already have the protection to do this, right?
So if this is the case, why is legislation that hasn't even passed the State Senate yet (and probably won't) such a big deal?
