Was a late arrival for the UCF game because of competing commitments that day. Walked up the hill from Mass Street hearing the distant sounds of the PA announcer and occasional cheers on just a picturesque October Saturday in Kansas.
After the crowd was quiet for a minute, my wife and I start to hear a faint, airy cheering that starts to build louder and louder until it’s a sustained fever pitch. The campanille bells go off and I look to her and shout something really special just happened! I couldn’t help but tear up a bit.
Turned out it was the Trevor Wilson punt return TD. I would’ve loved to be in the stadium for it but honestly it was a special memory the way it happened.
Going to be a strange fall without the team in Lawrence. But It’s so good to have the Hawks back baby.
