One of the first things that caught my eye when I first got there was the organization. I remember walking up to the same camp when Mangino held them and there might be a coach and another helper there.

Some thoughts on the staff you don't hear about all the time that has helped Beaty out

I made a comment to someone that KU went on an offer spree lately with a lot of recruits reporting offers. A person told me "get ready for a lot more" and they have been breaking down a lot of film lately.

The support staff is so much bigger and they do a good job. I really like Jeff Jordan. He introduced Beaty and I watched him. He had things very organized and I have been told he has been a major help on the inside.

I watched everyone interact with the campers and college coaches who were there. Some other guys you don't hear about are Garrett Riley. I have been told by many people he is a very sharp guy. And Grant Dreiling was a voice you heard a lot working with players in drills.

Tony Hull wasn't there I heard he was doing a camp in New Orleans.

I also heard Zach Yenser and Jeff Jordan were headed for San Antonio this morning to do a camp.

I'm going to start off with Anthony Payne. Man, he is an interesting prospect. He's got explosive numbers and I heard he had a vertical of 38". He posted the 5th best SPARQ time at the Florida camp and yet no Power Five offers. This is just me...but I think everyone might be thinking too hard. He plays a little tight in the hips and might not change direction the way you want DE's in the Big 12. He's rocked up in the body and I'm sure coaches are worrying about moving him inside and putting on 35 pounds. Does he have that much room to add?

In pass rush drills he looked good. The first time up and he started outside and then went inside on Gilbertson and blew him away. I think Payne is going to be interesting to watch.

The three guys from Trinity Valley that stood out were Alex Funches, Michael Sam, and Jovan Pruitt. Funches is an undersized DE who might be described as Brandon Perkins on Red Bull. He's lightning in a bottle off the edge. I honestly don't know if he's a true DE or a LB. But he would be comparable to the kid who just graduated at Oklahoma (I can't remember his name) who lined up off the edge and was a pass rusher.

Michael Sam is a legit cover corner in the Big 12. He left with an offer and was probably the best prospect of all the TVCC guys. He's about 6-foot-1 and has great change of direction. He will get more Big 12 offers.

The biggest kid at camp was Pruitt. He goes about 6-5, 380 at OL. He originally signed with Arkansas. He is a big boy. Yenser was talking with him quite a bit.

Gilbertson was better put together than I thought. He was trimmer than I thought he would be. He will have to play guard. They do a contest where you have to tag four players in a box and he turned in one of the best times.

Keep an eye on a 2018 prospect at OL named Aaron Clark. He's 6-6, 290 from Newton.

One player that definitely caught my eye was Esaias Carpenter from Maize South. A DL about 6-2, 290 and he played with some nastiness. I am going to find out more about him.

It is about a done deal as much as one can be but there will be no QB in the 2017 class. I don't think there were any offer guys. I thought the most interesting QB there was Jace Ruder from Norton High. He is 6-2, 213 and threw a nice ball. Emporia State offered after the camp.

The KU coaches will host a team camp and then spend a week on the road at satellite camps.
