In one of the findings within the 253-page report, the House intelligence committee wrote that Clapper leaked details of a dossier briefing given to then-President-elect Donald Trump to CNN’s Jake Tapper, lied to Congress about the leak, and was rewarded with a CNN contract a few months later.
Clapper knew that CNN had obtained the Hillary Clinton campaign opposition research Steele/Fusion GPS dossier and needed a "hook" or reason to publish what was too salacious and unverified to be taken seriously. CNN knew that if they reported the story that they'd be laughed out of town for being tabloid journalists.
So Clapper decided to brief Trump on the Steele dossier to give CNN the legitimacy they needed to report it with the rationale that surely if the DNI/FBI are briefing the president on the dossier they must believe the contents are true and verified. Circular logic legitimacy aka echo chamber aka astroturf manufacturing of news out of thin air.
CNN and democrats are fake news.
