Let's accept one another's assumptions in this thread.

You accept that entitlement programs do not guarantee the cycle of poverty argument espoused by the right and acknowledge that we have a responsibility to our own citizens to fill in the gaps our economy leaves open. In return, I will accept that not all of these are necessary and that we ought to not favor too many cuts to defense spending in order to pay for all of the entitlements.

This is working under a utilitarian assumption that US military influence around the globe, which is declining due to shifts in GDP, has lead to a more just world as a whole than hypothetical hegemony from a country like Russia or China, who mock human rights where we imperfectly tend to favor them.

What are the specific examples and policies we could enact to reconcile this?
