From November on I thought something was off with this team but I didn't know exactly what. Now I know it's the players not being what we thought they would be, not fitting well together at ALL, and our staffs inability to formulate a new plan with this roster of misfits. On top of that, we sold out for a guy who isnt effective in todays game unless you surround him with 4 athletic shooters, which we did not do. The blame goes a lot on the staff in my opinion but also I think these players are soft compared to what we've grown accustomed to. Many of our past players and BOMs are sick of watching this because it's hard to excuse. Sports don't always go according to plan, but trust me, my father who knows some BOMs and is also a former football player at KU has told me this isn't going to be acceptable for next season.. whatever that means, but I think it means changes likely coming.

Now, I'll attempt to bring what little optimism I have left. It's hard to envision us doing anything this season but now there's zero pressure because there's no expectation. If we somehow can find it in us to win 4 out of our last 5 then we can point to a strong finish to the worst year in decades. I will actually find it in me to be very proud of this team that has completely failed all expectation if they just go out there and fight like their life depends on it so we can trend a little more positively going in the offseason.

I've heard the staff plans to shake things up, and I have no idea what that means but I hope that is correct. We cannot afford to fumble building a roster around the most talented player in the Self era. The good news is he's a guard and not a big. Much better to build an offense around a guard then a slow footed big man. Plus, our bigs are 6'9 athletes that fit well with a guard like Peterson.

As many of you know, it's imperative that we find a 6'6 wing in the mold of a CB or JWill (easier said then done) and a SG that actually is quite similar to Mayo that can handle a little bit and more importantly consistently make threes to make it easy for Peterson to cook with the ball in his hands. The bench role players who wear kansas on their chest might already be there. Jackson, McDowell, Coit, Shelby and Calderon if he's still here might have the ability to give us solid role players who aren't 6'5 centers who have never made a three in their lives and a PG who's shooting 28% from 3 as a starter and hasn't improved in the 9 years he's been here.

I know I'm making it sound easy on paper but quite literally a SG who can hit threes at a consistent rate and a wing in the mold of CB or JWill and the roster would at least resemble something that should get us excited. Especially because there's no SR role players in the way eating up 30 minutes per game at 3 of the starting spots.

Am I way off? Do you see it way differently? It looks simple to me as far as roster construction. And if that comes to fruition and still doesn't work, I hear Nate Oats might be interested in an interview..
