There's been a lot of talk on NIL and how we will fall behind the P2 because of the higher TV revenue. However, after thinking about it, until the players get cuts of the revenue then nearly all NIL money is coming from donations.
So with that thought, I wanted to look at how KU ranked in donations vs other P5 schools so I pulled up the average donations for P5 schools from 2017-2021 and although KU likely won't be able to keep up with A&M, Georgia, or Texas, it very well should be able to keep up with the upper middle of the BIG/SEC (Missouri, Ole Miss, etc.). Obviously this will ebb and flow as the university does big projects (ie KU building a new stadium), but long term I see no reason why this shouldn't be a competitive advantage (we're number 1 in donations in the new Big 12)
Also note this doesn't split out donations specifically for new buildings so some of the large numbers from A&M/Oregon are likely a result of large one time donations.
