Read an interesting AP column on the gap between the two parties has grown to the point where some families are telling kids don’t socialize with (opposite party people) and definitely don’t marry/cohabit with one of them. It reminded me of another time and place. The house I grew up in was governed by a Republican farmer’s daughter and a Democrat blue collar guy from the oil patch. My sister and I benefited from being raised by politically charged parents. I can still remember my Republican mom admonishing my Democrat Dad by her warning sign - “Now, Mac” when his Irish got going on politics. Those interviewed for this story acknowledged the gap but wished for a less hyper partisan politics. For me, they represent my now two years old registration in the fastest growing segment of voters - Independent. I’d welcome any thoughts on this.
