LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas graduate center Hunter Dickinson and senior guard Zeke Mayo have earned Big 12 men's basketball weekly honors, the conference office announced Monday. Dickinson is the Big 12 Player of the Week, while Mayo is the co-Big 12 Newcomer of the Week in a vote by a media panel which covers the league.
This is the second occasion this year where Dickinson and Mayo earned Big 12 honors in the same week.
Dickinson recorded his fifth double-double of the season (53rd career) with 21 points, 14 rebounds and a career-high eight assists in Kansas' 75-60 win over NC State on Dec. 14. Dickinson was playing at a +30 efficiency while on the court for KU and shot 9-of-13 (69.2 percent) from the field and connected on both of his free throw attempts. Dickinson also picked two steals, blocked a shot and did not turn the ball over once. Since at least 1996-97, Dickinson is the first player with a 21-point, 14-rebound, 8-assist and 0-turnover performance against any opponent. Dickinson is also the first player in Big 12 history with that stat line.
This is the ninth Big 12 weekly honor for Dickinson, including his sixth Big 12 Player of the Week honor and third of 2024-25. Last year, Dickinson was a two-time Big 12 Newcomer of the Week while at Kansas. Career-wise, this is the eighth time Dickinson has been named his league's player of the week.
Mayo dropped a season-high 26 points on a season-high nine made field goals and five three-pointers. Mayo shot a 9-of-14 (64.3 percent) clip from the field, which included connecting on 5-of-9 (55.6 percent) shots from beyond the arc. The 26 points marked Mayo's second game this season with 20+ points, and the 31st of his career. Mayo also pulled down three rebounds and dished out two assists in his eighth-consecutive start for the Jayhawks.
A transfer from South Dakota State, this marks the seventh weekly award for Mayo in his college basketball career and his second while at Kansas (Big 12 co-Newcomer of the Week – Nov. 11, 2024).
No. 8 Kansas (8-2) will host Brown on Sunday, Dec. 22 at 2:00 p.m. (Central) at Allen Fieldh
