It's an interesting time of the year where the 2015 class starts to arrive on campus, but every now and then everyone doesn't make it. Sometimes due to eligibility reasons, sometimes other reasons. Either way, two guys recently that popped up that I wonder if KU could somehow get on campus...
Derrick Griffin - a 6' 6" former top 50 WR in the 2013 class who has had an interesting past couple of years and David Beaty is very familiar with him. Originally committed to Texas A&M, but word came out he wouldn't be eligible, so "signed" with Miami knowing he wouldn't be eligible. So then rumors come out he is going to prep school to try and get eligible, then rumors of JUCO, and then really nothing. Well turns out he enrolled at Texas Southern this past year, on his own dime and not a part of any team or anything...he tweets recently he made grades his first year there (completing 27 credit hours) and is now eligible to transfer and play somewhere right away with 4 years of eligibility left. Assuming the credits transfer, rumors are schools like A&M, Miami, TCU, and Bama are interested. However, my thinking is he also wants to walk on to a basketball team...KU has an open walk-on spot...maybe KU could pitch the idea of him walking on to a potential title basketball team that could break the conference record winning streak in addition to playing for a guy he is very familiar with???
Du'Vonta Lampkin - a 6' 4" 305 lbs top 25 DT prospect committed to Texas just tweeted he wouldn't not be enrolling at Texas. It does sound like it is due to him needing to take a correspondence course, but the feeling is he should be able to complete that and be eligible at a school this year (EDIT: the course needed is a foreign language requirement required to get into UT but not other schools, so eligible elsewhere but not UT). Coach Beaty has recruited the school some, offering a teammate of his last year named Nate Dalton and also posing for a picture and recruiting another teammate some named Mike Eke who ended up at Houston. I am all for adding late addition big DL to the team!
No idea if we recruit these guys, but there is some links here and think these would be some quality targets for blueshirt opportunities...
