Clyde Tombaugh, the man who is credited with finding Pluto, recently had some of his ashes placed on Pluto as the New Horizons spacecraft passed near Pluto attended KU.
It was first found at KU that helium existed in some natural gas reserves back in 1905
The CReSIS (Center for Remote Sensing of Ice Sheets) was a part of a study with NASA and other universities that was able to use radar to give a look into the massive ice sheet over Greenland
