I lurk over here sometimes but i stay away for the most part. figure this would be the best place to ask for advice on a college fund for my God daughter. I was thinking of putting away $100 a month for the next 16 or so years (she's 2) to help pay for a year or two of her college.
I have zero experience with this, my dad didn't do a 529 and i know her parents aren't planning for this yet so I just want to get some information on your experiences with this and any advice for someone that has some extra income that would like to invest it in a loved one's future.
is the 529 a good plan for this? is there something better? any advice would be greatly appreciated because i'm clueless and want to get the ball rolling this year for their Christmas gift.
also, my company doesn't offer a roth so I'm looking to start one, any advice on that would be much appreciated as well.
