I've only been following KU since the Glenn Mason days and I honestly can't remember a time since then when fans didn't complain about the play calling fairly consistently. I'm not excusing DB as there were a number of things that he has done this year that I would disagree with including some play calling and playing Cozart over Willis and never throwing to Ben Johnson today. Having said that a lot of people bashing the play calling tend to completely ignore the fact that sometimes players have to make plays and the play calling becomes much less of an issue. From the TCU game alone off the top of my head the players failed in execution frequently: Three missed FG's. Willis taking an unnecessary sack on 2nd down on last drive.....throw the ball away and save yardage and a precious timeout. Adeniji giving up two sacks on last drive. Martin running sideways instead of straight ahead down at goal line. (Willis indicated the same with his hand motion right after the play). For those who want to criticize that running play remember on first down we lost a yard trying to go right up the gut and we all know our OL at this point cannot get the necessary push in short yardage. Ehambe with the facemask when we are closing in on a big sack which would have forced a punt with us ahead and all the momentum in our favor. No one jumping on the ball laying on the turf to eliminate the TCU QB picking it up and running another 30 yards. Quiv not high pointing the ball and pulling it in for a TD. Bottom line is with a more mature, experienced and stronger OL a lot of offensive play calling and execution problems become much less of an issue and hopefully starting next year that's the case.
