Another one to look at.
Hickenlooper was the Governor, also Mayor of Denver. He opposed Marijuana laws, is as machine as they come. Dropped out early in the POTUS primary.
In the latest filing on June 15 he raised just $99k. A Democrat Super PAC has decided to dump $1MM into his campaign *in a primary*.
His opponent is Andrew Romanoff who was in the CO House for years and was its Speaker. Has racked up a lot of local endorsements.
Yet another classic struggle where the DNC is dumping in loads and loads of money in the primary instead of sitting back and waiting to use that in the general against the Republican. They'd rather knock out the Green New Deal, M4A insurgent progressive, that's the real victory there for them - it's all just house money they're playing with after that.
To their credit, Gardner (R) who holds the seat is in trouble anyway. But once again, Hickenlooper isn't exactly going to inspire the apathetic voter who doesn't have nearly as much to gain from him vs Romanoff.
Gardner had defeated the incumbent, Mark Udall by about 2 points in 2014. Udall wasn't a terrible Senator, but this was pre Political Revolution by about a year.
The primary is June 30.
