For those who have forgotten that the biggest issue confronting humanity is still out there, a recent report painted a far darker picture than before. 25 researchers analyzed a host of variables over 4 years and concluded there isn't likely a 'balancing' from nature, and therefore if we can continue unchecked as we currently are we may see warming upto and exceeding 8 degrees. Even the lower end of the projections they lay out will lead to significant sea level rise, wide spread species extinctions, ecological collapses, starvation, the shutdown of ocean and wind currents, disease, and large-scale human death.
And to head off two likely points: we are already seeing climate change so it's not only 'in the future,' and nothing I posted about likely happening is alarmist. It's actually very likely.
