SDSU recruits jucos so I think it's worth leading with that. Next they signed a 3 star kid not long ago. However, their 5 OL starters were all from high school. All 5 redshirted and few of them touched the field as a freshman.
Last year the stats were regurgitated here over and over again how I think 1 or 2 team in the top 25 have more than one juco OL as a starter and the same for DL.
Jucos started at OC, RG, RT, and DE. Another starter was so far down a depth chart at another mediocre schol he came to KU.
KU only had 4 kids start on the OL or DL that has been on campus straight out of high school, rsJr LT that has not been at tackle for a year, rsSr at LG, rsSr at DE, rsFr at DT. 2 freaking seniors is it.
You control the games with a presence up front. You don't plug kids on the OL and DL from other places and have expectations of them being impact players. It has to be from high school.
The foundation of these units is painfully slow to build. Gill and Weis didn't do it, both had different issues why they didn't. Beaty has clearly put effort to find high school OL. I feel strong guys like Bragg, Garza, Saulsbury, Ribordy, Hughes, and McCauley are going to be on the field sans off field or injury issues. It just isn't going to happen for another 12-24 months. Even at that point, the depth is going to be kind of bad.
If you want to critique the DL, sound off on what appears to be few numbers left to hand out spots in the 2016 class which means it's going to be difficult to see the interior OL grow much from the high school ranks. Add Bledsoe, things are then a little different obviously.
