Kansas head coach David Beaty announced Ryan Willis will start at quarterback for the Jayhawks matchup with Big 12 foe Texas Christian on Saturday.
Beaty announced the decision during Monday's edition of Hawk Talk. After utilizing a two QB system through the season's first four games, with team captain Montell Cozart starting each contest, Beaty stated that Willis would be the choice going forward.
"He has shown some real progress for us from fall camp," Beaty said of Willis. "I know Ryan is excited about it."
Redshirt freshman Carter Stanley also saw time at QB during the Jayhawks early season, but the second-year head coach opted instead for the 6-foot-4, 215-pound sophomore from Bishop Miege High School.
After Cozart was lost for the season due to injury, Willis started eight games in 2015. The in-state product established new program marks for passing yards by a freshman. Willis was also just the sixth player ever to lead the Jayhawks in passing as a freshman.
