on Petro's show? Yes, this is football related. So Gottlieb and Petro were talking about some of the crap that goes on in recruiting (mostly basketball), but Gottlieb made the comment that football was getting as bad as basketball where handlers/runners getting paid to steer recruits to schools. Obviously the SEC has a horrible reputation for cheating, but generally seem to get away with it. It just made me kind of curious how we (KU) can recruit at such a high level in one sport and not the other? If you look at Baylor, for example, their basketball program had a player kill another player, basically get the current equivalent of the death penalty (no noncon play) and then the next thing you know, they're out recruiting blue bloods and other strong basketball programs.
In general, I just think it's interesting that in basketball, you pretty much know who the top 50-100 players are and everyone is trying to get those kids so it makes sense there's stuff happening on the side, but with football, things are much more of a crapshoot recruiting wise in how develops into the best players that there's nearly as much stuff happening on the side or maybe it is even more since there's so many more players.
