With the past couple of hires, something that has been frustrating was the initial lack of offers (and in Weis's case the continuing lack of offers). Several times, people were questioning why a certain recruit hadn't been offered. The reason I remember hearing during the initial phase of Gill and Weis's era was that it takes time to get a feel for the place, settled in, and setting up the recruiting board.
Well that definitely isn't the case for Beaty. Someone made a point yesterday that there are more offers out in the 2017 class than Weis had out last year at this time in the 2015 class. That probably isn't that far from the truth as there is currently 29 offers listed for the 2017 class.
But it has made me wonder about the claim time is needed to get everything straight on the recruiting trail. When Beaty took over, he had over a handful of guys come in for visits that KU wasn't previously recruiting. We see the offers going out now. So Coach Beaty obviously hasn't needed that adjustment year like the previous two staffs. I wonder if that is common elsewhere, if that is a recent common trend, or if Beaty is just that good with recruiting/the other staffs weren't?
