I'm sure most every one of these kids will have to earn a spot. We have talked about Krysten Hammons who apparently was there over the summer or trying to earn a spot. I saw he tweeted he "tried to chase his dreams" but it didn't work out so he was headed back to Georgia State.
My guess is Beaty has told players there is an opportunity at Kansas but they have to earn it. If you can go into camp and win a job then you get a scholarship.
I would throw the term blueshirt out the window because I'm not sure it really exists. If Beaty gives you a chance but you don't earn it then he doesn't owe a kid anything who arrived as a walk on. If there is a kid who comes in and gets in trouble or doesn't get his grades, etc etc Beaty doesn't have to give him a scholarship. When the word blueshirt came up a couple years ago it was a new name for recruiting. But it doesn't mean a thing because the school doesn't owe you anything.
If Beaty gives out scholarships to any of the current new players I'm assuming they earned their ride. I don't think Beaty and his staff will promise a bunch of scholarships and then have kids come in and not live up to what is needed. That's part of the game. I saw where Tennessee parted ways with a "blueshirt" over the summer. They called it mutual. That's a way of saying a kid was told he could earn a scholarship and the coaches didn't think he was going to cut it and pack his bags.
