LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Big 12 Conference announced the 2023-24 Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team on Wednesday, with 758 student-athletes earning the honor. Kansas had 70 student-athletes recognized to the team.
Of the Jayhawks' 70 honorees, 14 earned a perfect 4.0 grade point average (GPA) for the 2023-24 academic year. Student-athletes to earn a 4.0 GPA include Lauren Pham (Women's Golf), Raegan Burns (Volleyball), Andrew Kirby (Men's Track and Field), Reese Hulcher (Women's Track and Field), Taylor Mayo (Women's Track and Field), Mason Meinershagen (Women's Track and Field), Caroline Castans (Soccer), Siera Herbert (Soccer) Gracyn O'Mara (Swim and Dive), Kathryn Borthwick (Rowing), Logan Foster (Rowing), Alex Harswick (Rowing), Leah Petrie (Rowing) and Kyoka Kubo (Women's Tennis).
Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services, student-athletes on the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team must be new, first-time/incoming freshmen that have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial coursework and achieved a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00.
Additionally, the student-athlete must have participated in at least one of their team's scheduled contests and must have been a member of their respective team for their sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
The Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team was introduced in the 2012-13 academic year.
The Kansas Women's Track and Field Team led the way for the Jayhawks with 14 honorees, followed by rowing with 12 and men's track and field and women's swimming and diving with eight apiece. KU Football had six players on the list, soccer had four, volleyball, softball and women's basketball each had three, women's golf, men's golf, men's basketball and baseball had two apiece and women's tennis earned one.
