Cozart gets to top speed very fast! Getting that 4th and one and was huge early in the 4th! When Cozart gets protection, he needs to stay in pocket better, when he has no pressure.
O line can definitely run block. A few times Kinner doesn't get touched until he gets 3 yards down field...that's all you want as coach!
Missed out on big momentum when we settled for FG on first drive in 4th. Likens might call those last 3 plays differently now.
A couple of times I saw DL get penetration in the 4th quarter, but they just got pushed where O line wanted them to go. They penetrated to far. SDSU O line owned the line of scrimmage after we closed to 34 to 31. That was a perfect throw by Lujan to his TE.
Heads up play by Stanford to recover Mann's fumble. Fantastic grab by Parmalee. Huge play. I love the way Parmalee was up and handing the ball to the ref already right after! He knew time and situation! Draw was wide open. Good call.
Big Larry mistake was a false start. Need to keep them to a minimum. Good play call and execution to get the final score. We ran a lot to get that last touchdown. Wonder if Likens questions that at all?
Wise' facemask flag may have actually helped us a little bit by stopping the clock on SDSU last drive. Good job on last drive overall. Coverage sack was nice to see!
Parmalee punt return was pretty big. He got hawked tho (caught from behind).
First play of last drive was with 39 seconds left. 2nd play was snapped at 22 or 21 seconds. too much time in between. Cozart was driven out of bounds with 15 seconds left. And then of course we all know how it ended. I think Likens would definitely make different calls with second chance.
In reflection, I feel what we should look at is the improvement we got out of Cozart. Yes he made mistakes, but he doesnt exactly have a lot of games under his belt. He hasn't started since Day 1. And then last year he got taken off the field. He has obviously been coached up a lot and it showed. He may not be the next Todd Reesing, but what if he can become the next Adam Barmann. And I don't think (judging by 2 play mind you) that Ryan Willis is ready to take over.
I liked the play of our WR and TE. They have definitely been coached up along with the O line. O line definitely played better once they got settled down. I was beginning to question whether we had a Bill Callahan staff on our hands (able to recruit and not coach up) but after watching the replay I no longer have that fear.
As far as our Defense I didn't think they played that bad after they settled down. They allowed 31 points in the 1st half. 14 of which came off of turnovers (I believe). Short field gets you killed. Tackling was bad, but wasn't as bad as what I thought judging from the comments from the game. We missed to many, but it got a lot better after the first quarter.
This team definitely has the talent to compete, maybe not win, but definitely compete with quite a few teams on our schedule. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out and of course, ROCK CHALK!!!!
