This is not an excuse for our poor execution in the first half on Saturday. Coastal Carolina was ready to play and we weren't. That is 100% on our staff.
But, in an attempt to talk people off the ledge in regards to our current staff, let's go back to Beaty's last class and see what Les inherited.

Beaty, in an all out attempt to save his job, signed 32 players in the 2018 class. 12 of those players (blue/gray shirts) counted against the 2019 recruiting class (Miles' first class). (I actually can only count 7, but Miles only had 13 IC's for the 2019 class so it has to be 12).
Of the 32 players, 23 were (Juco or Grad) transfers.
7 of them were off the team before Miles' first game.
Another 9 of them are not on the team for Miles' second (current) season (10 if you include Coe Harris).

If you think about it, that's 12 scholarships he had stolen from him, then another 16 players that he either didn't get to coach, or had for 1 year.
That's 12 more RS Freshman/True Sophomores, and 16 RS Sophomores/True Juniors we could have on our team. That's more than an entire recruiting class that we're missing right in the middle roster.
It also doesn't include all the shortcuts we took in the previous classes as well (5 blue/grays in 2017 class).

There's 3 classes of Beaty's still here. This is what is left:
Seniors: 17 (13 starters)
Juniors: 9
Sophomores: 5
Freshman: 1 (Locklin Grayshirt)

If this were a normal year eligibility-wise, here's what Beaty's remaining players would be next year:
Seniors - 9
Juniors - 5

So the 2 takeaways....

1) We are missing an entire class in the middle of our roster. Those spots should be our backups right now, but instead, we have a ton of freshman we're being forced to play.
2) This isn't the last year of this mess (unless our seniors stay, which isn't possible with how many players we have committed in the '21 class). Even in year 4 we will have single digit seniors.

We gave ourselves the death penalty twice in a decade. The only way out of it is to stay the course for a full 5 years before we can expect an even playing field.
Not sure if Miles can handle that. We may need to just keep him in a spokesperson role until then, but changing things up (HC/AD wise) is not the answer. Not that we can afford that right now anyway.
